Smokebox: Design work continues to create CAD images from original LNER drawings of the B17 Smokebox General Arrangement. Manufacturing drawings have also been started for the Smokebox Door, Hinge and Chimney including the Liner and Cowl.

While we continue the work to create the wheelsets for the main Coupled Driving Wheels, we have opened up two new construction ‘fronts’, starting detailed work on the bogie frames and assemblies, and the Smokebox.

Work continues at a pace on the two Cannon Axleboxes, the various Hornblock Plate Liners and the six Hornblocks in a number of locations. The initial machining of the Cannon Axleboxes has been completed and they have been test assembled at Daniela Works, Shildon.

On 7th April, the Trust took delivery of a 40ft container at CTL Seal for the storage of parts and equipment.

More orders have been placed - this time for the Plain Axle forgings and the Roller Bearings.

An order was placed with South Devon Railway Engineering on 14th February, for the steel forging for the tyres on the rolling chassis - that is the six driving wheels (being cast at the moment - see January 2022 update) and the four on the front bogie.
