Put A Spring In Our StepSprings

We are announcing the launch of a new appeal. Following on from the incredible success of the “Who Will Put A Spoke In My Wheel” initiative, we are now pleased to ask you to “Put A Spring In Our Step”. This is to raise the funds necessary to have the main locomotive driving wheel springs fabricated – the likely cost of each spring assembly is estimated at £5,240, so with six springs needed simple arithmetic tells you we are needing to raise at least £31,440 to have them all made. The idea is that you will be able to sponsor an inch of spring for just £10 – obviously you can sponsor as many inches as you want.

Sandy's Fighting Fund!!

This fund was set up when we were looking for a new base from which to complete the build of our new locomotive, Spirit of Sandringham, in 2020. We were also obliged to find a new home for our tenders at that time. To do this obviously incurred costs in moving some large and heavy pieces of metal.

Sandys fighting fund

Sandy was anxious to help and had contacted his relatives in order to set up Sandy's Fighting Fund! This was used to help finance the move and

Now, the fund continues, to help fund the movement of the 61662 Project tender which has been donated to the Trust, but which currently resides at the Mizens. The movement of this LNER tender to our base in Sheffield is imminent.

Sandy is again appealing to all of us to do what we can to help. With the continuing absence of fundraising events and opportunities to meet in 2021, this is still a difficult time.

Therefore Sandy needs your help!!

If you can make a contribution to the Fund, please send your donation made out to B17 Steam Locomotive Trust, c/o 171 Clifton Road, Shefford, Bedfordshire SG17 5AG marking the envelope for Sandy's Fighting Fund.

Alternatively, contribute by direct bank transfer to B17 SLT, Account Number: 53357821, Sort Code: 20-41-12, reference "Fighting Fund".

B17 SLT Nuts and Bolts Appeal

This appeal was launched in the Spring 2020 newsletter, asking everyone to save their small change in a convenient container in order to help pay for the nuts and bolts and small fixings needed in constructing 61673 ‘Spirit of Sandringham’. We hope that everyone could participate in this Appeal, as we need a lot of small fixings in the construction process and many have to be individually made. If you would like a label for your container advertising the Appeal, please phone 07749 317373 or e-mail your request to This email address is being protected from spambots.
